50 Things Toxic Partners Say That You Should Never Ignore

toxic phrases in a relationship

In relationships, communication plays a pivotal role in maintaining harmony and understanding yet there are some toxic things that partners say that can have a long-term negative effect on those we claim to love.

Not all words spoken are benign, harmless, or loving; some can be toxic, manipulative, or even abusive. They cut deep, causing long-lasting pain, hurt, and resentment. These negative feelings if left unattended over time can irrevocably damage not just our relationship but also ourselves.

Understanding these red flags is crucial for your mental and emotional well-being. They range from subtle insults and accusations to dismissive and offhand comments and even outright cruelty. No one should be subject to that on a regular from their partner.

Years ago, I had a neighbor, Libby, who always used the meanest of words on her partner in the heat of every argument. She claimed that all said in anger shouldn’t be taken to heart but I made her see reason that even if it wasn’t taken to heart by her partner, it was certainly festering deep within his being.

And that the reality is that even in the heat of the hottest argument, you can always choose to communicate your feelings without using abusive and foul language.

A woman is meant to be a source of life, building up her partner and their family together and being his source of peace not one of heartache, tearing down his being.

It took a long while but all the healthy conflict resolution tips I taught her to try as an alternative in conjunction with a more effective communication strategy finally paid off!

She eventually learned how to stay calm at her boyfriend even when angry and today she and Dean (the then-boyfriend) have been married for 5 years and counting.

If she could, you can too but before then you have to identify the toxic things you’re saying to your partner or that you’re at the receiving end of. In this article, we will delve into 50 phrases toxic partners often use that you should never ignore. So, let’s go!
